SUSTAINING AGRICULTURAL CHANGE THROUGH ECOLOGICAL ENGINEERING AND OPTIMAL USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Swedish Univeristy of Agricultural Sciences

WHO WE ARE

SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) is a major centre for ecology research in Scandinavia. The Department of Ecology conducts internationally strong empirical and theoretical research and education aimed towards sustainable forestry, agriculture and conservation. Our fundamental research on populations, communities and ecosystems forms the basis for our applied research on the effects of land use and climate on animals, plants and soil. We aim at finding solutions that will contribute to improve greenhouse gas balances, conserve threatened species, support biodiversity and ecosystem services, sustainable wildlife management, and pest management in forest and agricultural landscapes, as well as in urban areas.

WHAT WE DO IN STACCATO

We coordinate WP3 (Regulating services), but are also to a lesser extent involved in several other work-packages. We are interested in how land use and land use change at local, landscape and regional scales influence the provision of and the relationships between multiple ecosystem services, influencing potential synergies and trade-offs between them.
